“But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the
things which I say?” Luke 6:46
Sebin
loves to take a pill of kids’ multi-vitiamins each morning. The pills are in
different animal shapes and they are sweet, too. (We realized that there is too
much sugar in them, so we are now trying to make Sebin stop eating them.) Well,
we don’t have to remind her to eat them. Each morning Sebin would sing to us
asking for her vitamin. “Appa! Appa! (Which means ‘dad’) Give me my vitamins!”
Then I’d tell her that she has to wait until she finishes her breakfast. Sebin
then would sit down to eat her breakfast. She would eat quite fast and then
shout, “Vitamins!” I would hand her the bottle and untighten the bottle so that
she can open it herself. She would pour a few pills. Next, she will choose her
animal shape of the day and put it in her mouth. She doesn’t chew it. Sebin
keeps sucking it because she knows she can’t have another one until the
following morning.
It’s
a different story in the evening. After the day is over and it’s time to sleep.
We take a look at the floor. It’s a huge mess. Sebin’s toys are all over the
place. The books she took out from the shelves are all over. It’s time to clean
them up. We tell Sebin, “It’s time to clean up!” Sebin runs away. For one, she
doesn’t want to sleep. Also, she doesn’t want to clean up. It’s a battle each
night, convincing Sebin that she needs to clean up. Like the verse above, Sebin
simply does ‘not do the things which I say.’ Eventually, Sebin and I work
together to clean up the mess. (Now that she’s bigger, Sebin has learned to
clean up on her own these days.)
What
if we are calling on God and say ‘Lord, Lord!’ only when we want something but ‘not
do the things which He says?’
